Leading campaigner killed in Hiroshima bombing

 

Suwon Suboy, a survivor of the world's first atomic bomb and campaigning against nuclear weapons in Japan, has died at the age of 96.

On August 6, 1945, Sunao Suboi was attending college in Hiroshima, Japan. That was the day the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

Suno Suboy, the victim of the bombing, suffered burns all over his body.
The atomic bombing killed at least 140,000 people in Hiroshima. Sensing and experiencing this pain, Suboy devoted his life to campaigning for the elimination of nuclear weapons.

Sierra Leone explosion: Scores dead after Freetown oil tanker collision

  t least 84 people have died after a massive explosion when a fuel tanker collided with a lorry in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown. Fuel spilled before igniting and the resulting inferno engulfed bystanders and vehicles at a busy junction. Footage broadcast by local media outlets showed badly charred bodies in the streets surrounding the tanker. President Julius Maada Bio said he was "deeply disturbed by the tragic fires and the horrendous loss of life". In a tweet , he said his government would do "everything to support the affected families". Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr described seeing "harrowing" photos and said there were "rumours that more than 100 people have lost their lives". The state-run morgue is reported to have received more than 90 bodies and some 100 people are being treated in hospitals and health centres around Freetown.   The United States has condemned Russia for testing a "dangerous and irresponsible" satellite missile. The United States has said Russia's experiment endangered those on board the International Space Station (ISS). During this test of a Russian missile, a Russian-owned satellite exploded and shattered. This created debris in space, forcing crews on the International Space Station to enter the capsule for security reasons. The ISS station currently has seven employees, four of whom are Americans. Two are from Russia and one is from Germany. The ISS space station orbits the Earth at an altitude of about 420 kilometers (260 miles).
