If a cosmic fragment with a diameter of a few meters collides with the Earth, it will cause continental catastrophe.

Although this particular meteorite poses no threat to Earth, it is the first attempt to steer a meteorite with the aim of learning how to save the Earth.

"Dart, TimorFoss will only change the amount of time it takes to complete its orbit. If a meteorite is detected too early, that's enough," said Kelly Fast, of NASA's Planetary Coordination Office.

Wednesday at 06:20 GMT, the Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Dart spacecraft will depart from the Vandenberg Space Base in California.
