Samal Rajapaksa: “Shortage of rice; Eat cassava ”- Opposition to the Sri Lankan minister's opinion

 


Sri Lanka's Minister of Irrigation and President Gotabhaya Rajapakse's elder brother, Samal Rajapakse, has come under fire for urging people to eat cassava and alfalfa amid a shortage of rice in Sri Lanka.

"Will there be food shortages in the country"? He was responding to a question raised by a journalist to Minister Chamal Rajapaksa.
The minister acknowledged the shortage of rice in the country and said cassava and alfalfa could be eaten instead.

Criticism of the Minister's remarks has arisen at various levels; Members of parliament and the public have commented that the minister's speech is reminiscent of the bad experience faced by the people during the rule of Sirimavo Bandaranaike.

On August 6, 1945, Sunao Suboi was attending college in Hiroshima, Japan. That was the day the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Suno Suboy, the victim of the bombing, suffered burns all over his body. The atomic bombing killed at least 140,000 people in Hiroshima. Sensing and experiencing this pain, Suboy devoted his life to campaigning for the elimination of nuclear weapons.

The United States has blamed Russia for destroying and testing its own satellite

  The United States has condemned Russia for testing a "dangerous and irresponsible" satellite missile. The United States has said Russia's experiment endangered those on board the International Space Station (ISS). During this test of a Russian missile, a Russian-owned satellite exploded and shattered. This created debris in space, forcing crews on the International Space Station to enter the capsule for security reasons. The ISS station currently has seven employees, four of whom are Americans. Two are from Russia and one is from Germany. The ISS space station orbits the Earth at an altitude of about 420 kilometers (260 miles).

  The Standing Committee of the National People's Forum (NPC), China's parliament, has approved its first national law describing how to manage security along its 22,000 km long land border, which is shared with 14 countries. The Land Boundary Act, which is designed to "regulate, strengthen and ensure border security," will come into force on January 1. The law regulates the role of the Chinese military in border security and managing disputes with neighboring countries. This allows the military to use police equipment and weapons to prevent illegal crossings.
